I'm just trying to light up the world as much as I can one SciFi/paranormal/fantasy/space opera/time travel book at a time.

Mistborn: The Final Empire - Brandon Sanderson

This a book that came VERY highly recommended, so much so that I just had to see what the hype was about. My husband and I read this book together every night before bed for a week...yes, it took us an entire week to plod through it. The majority of the book is spectacularly just OK. The premise is EXTREMELY original (a HUGE plus)! The world building and character development are masterfully executed. The dialogue however is simply MEH...even though the characters were rich and empathetic the whole story seemed to be bogged down in its ambitions of grandeur. The book didn't really get juicy until the last few chapters. If it weren't for my husband's determination to wade through the monotony, it most likely would have ended up on my DNF list. I must admit now, having just finished the book no more than 10 minutes ago, that I would have been extremely remiss had I not read it through to the end. So if you are having trouble plodding through the weight of the book's epic endeavors, my advice is to undoubtedly stick with it! It does redeem itself and lays a beautifully latticed framework for what appears to be a burgeoning tale of EPIC proportion. Yes, an EPIC tale that resurrected itself from the brink of disdain and reinvented itself to possible epic status...a mouthful yes! and unique for me so book #2 here we come.
